Lent is the penitential season of 40 days (excluding Sundays) set aside by the Church in order for the faithful to prepare for the commemoration of the Lord's Passion, Death, and the celebration of His Resurrection.
"Renounce yourself in order to follow Christ; discipline your body; do not pamper yourself, but love fasting." - St. Benedict
"But He was wounded for our iniquities, He was bruised for our sins: the chastisement of our peace was upon Him, and by His bruises we are healed. (Isaiah 53:5)
During Passion Week, it would be worth watching Mel Gibson's movie "The Passion of the Christ." The visual aspects of the movie will bring us closer to the time of Our Lord's Suffering and it will be a meaningful time for us to contemplate upon His Holy Death.
